Simon Miraudo is the resident film reviewer and blogger for Quickflix. He is also co-host of the Trending Cinema podcast. The first film he ever saw in cinemas was Back to the Future … from the comfort of his mother’s womb. Having fallen in love with movies in utero, post-birth Simon has since gone on to devour as many films as he can get his hands on, particularly those of his favourite filmmakers: Dario Argento, Akira Kurosawa, Paul Thomas Anderson, Park Chan-wook, The Coen Brothers, Woody Allen, Stanley Kubrick, Sergio Leone, and predictably, anything from Pixar.

He graduated from the Curtin University of Technology with Honours. His thesis examined the nature of revenge within Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy. Aside from his examiners, the only person to read it is his girlfriend. She thinks it’s pretty good.

Simon is also a member of the Film Critics Circle of Australia, the Australian Film Critics Association and the Online Film Critics Society, whether they like it or not.

As director of the Sydney Film Festival for 18 years (1966-1983), he fought to reform censorship in Australia and championed the emerging local film industry, screening the early work of most of the country's leading filmmakers, as well as assembling an annual programme of cutting-edge international cinema.

Until 2004 David was feature film consultant to SBS Television since its establishment in 1980, as well as introducing Movie of the Week and Cinema Classics for 24 weeks a year. He was also co-host of The Movie Show, which was established in 1986 as Australia's only comprehensive film review program on national television.

He has taught film history as part of the University of Sydney's Centre for Continuing Education programme for 13 years.

Stratton writes on film for numerous publications in Australia and abroad, including the influential American trade paper, Variety, the British magazine, Sight and Sound, and the British International Film Guide. He has been film reviewer for The Australian since 1988.

Stratton has frequently served on international juries at film festivals, including the festivals of Venice, Berlin, Montreal, Chicago and Hawaii.

He has twice served as president of the International Film Critics (FIPRESCI) Jury at the Cannes Film Festival.

He has published two books on the Australian film industry, The Last New Wave (1980) and The Avocado Plantation (1990). His honours include the award of Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters (France), and the Raymond Longford Lifetime Achievement Award of the Australian Film Institute.
